Paul Willard, Richmond Chapter Board Member-at-Large, continues his service as a volunteer of the Virginia Wing Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and currently serves as the Director of Aerospace Education. Willard will provide the RAC-MOAA members at presentation on the Civil Air patrol and its three-fold mission as the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

The CAP was established one week before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor by 150,000 civilians who wanted to ensure aviation continued in the continental US and supported the Army Air Corps per- forming assorted missions notably protecting the US coastline and spotting and attacking German U- Boats.

With the creation of the US Air Force CAP was named the USAF Official Auxiliary comprised of both adults and Cadets with a three-fold mission of Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs, and Emergency Services.

Willard holds the grade of Lt. Col in the CAP and his membership began as a Cadet and now encompasses over 50 years of continual service. He has held numerous positions across the US and as the current Director of Aerospace Education and coordinates programs with 22 CAP Squadrons across the Commonwealth.

Willard will speak on the current missions of CAP with emphasis on how CAP is providing aerospace resources to support not only the active Air Force, but initiatives with Virginia’s public, private, and home-school students and teachers.
